All in the Game: Teen terrific in Milan

Queensland teenager Damien Hooper scored two victories in the middleweight (75 kg) division at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Milan, Italy, in the first fortnight of September.

Only last December he won the Australian under 17 title in 70kg division at Sydney.

In Milan, Hooper notched a 12-7 win over Mathieu Bauderlique of France then bagged an rsc3 over the Czech, Vaudan Beselan.

His remarkable run was derailed in the second week by Victor Cotillianschi (Mba) who carded 15-5.

South Australian puncher Mostyn Niemann hammered Lamin Nyassi of Gambia and stopped him in round two of their heavyweight match. Mostyn later lost 11-4 to Steve Simmons (Sco).

Victorian welterweight Mark Basile lost 22-8 after a stout battle with Brian Castano, Argentina. Castano later lost to the gold medal winner.

The Victorian light-welterweight Qamil Balla beat Manchita Luis of Bolivia, 11-2, on day one.

Qamil dropped the points 20-5 against Lithuania's Egidius Kavaliauskas. The Lithuanian lost to silver medalist Frankie Gomez of the USA.

Qamil's younger brother, Ibrahim Balla lost a close one to the United States featherweight Kevin Rivers, who edged it 22-19.

The fourth Victorian in Bodo Andreas' Aussie team, flyweight Andrew Moloney was outpointed 21-4 by Fernando Martinez of Argentina.
