Weekend Review
A brief round-up of the weekend's action;
ALEXANDER STOPS URANGO, UNIFIES TITLES

Unbeaten Devon Alexander stopped Juan Urango in the eighth round Saturday to unify the IBF and WBC light-welterweight championships of the world. Referee Benjy Esteves stopped the fight 1:12 into the eighth round after a pair of uppercuts by US standout Alexander sent Colombia's Urango to the first knockout defeat of his career.
Alexander improved to 20-0 with his 13th victory inside the distance while Urango fell to 22-3 with one drawn. The 22-year-old American added Urango's IBF crown to his WBC title belt with a devastating right uppercut in the eighth and another stunning blow to the temple followed by a final uppercut that send Urango down to end the fight.
"Speed kills anything; I knew he was a brawler, that he would keep coming. I knew if I didn't stand in front of him I would be the champion. He didn't hurt me at all." Alexander said.
Alexander stopped Britain's Junior Witter to claim the WBC light-welterweight title last August, the same month Urango returned the light welterweight ranks with an 11th-round stoppage of American Randall Bailey for the IBF crown. The only prior losses for Urango, 29, were to former champion Ricky Hatton of England in 2007 and current welterweight title holder Andre Berto last May.
Alexander used footwork and effective jabs to seize command. Although Urango scored well at times with right hooks, Alexander stayed with his tactics and pressed his advantage. Alexander opened a cut above the South American's left eye in round two but stayed patient rather than risk getting into a flurry with the hard-punching Colombian.
"When I see blood, I want to go for it, but I stayed focused, stuck to the game plan and now I'm the IBF champion, I can beat anybody." Alexander said.
Urango, who took Ricky Hatton 12 rounds despite losing on points in 2007, had bossed the sixth and seventh rounds and looked to be getting on top in the fight. However, Alexander produced a right uppercut that floored Urango in the eight, although the IBF champion got back to his feet to beat the count.
He looked unsteady though, and Alexander sensed the end was in sight and moved in with another heavy right hand that wobbled Urango before another uppercut forced referee Benjy Esteves to stop the fight.
